Galaxy S21 Ultra Receives lesser Score than its Predecessor by DxOMark

The Galaxy S21 Ultra received several excellent reviews worldwide. With its improved design, fast and more reliable performance, it got good reviews. The phone has two telephoto cameras, 3x and 10x optical zoom each. Compared to the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the zoom range has been improved massively. The DxOMark score for S21 Ultra is lower than that of the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

DxOMark’s camera review of the Galaxy S21 Ultra was only 121 points. However, last year, the Galaxy S20 Ultra got 126 points. The score breakdown goes like this; S21 Ultra got 128 points in the photo segment, 98 points in the video segment, and 76 points in the zoom segment.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S20 Ultra received 128 points for photos, 106 for video, and 88 for the zoom segment. The review said that the S21 Ultra is not as good as the S20 Ultra regarding the video and zoom quality.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra indeed does have better reliable focusing and improved low-light images and videos as well. The zoom range is also longer than the predecessor. Still, the phone got a lower score than the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

The reason is that DxOMark was not entirely impressed with the two zoom cameras. According to them, the new cameras are not much worthy of the S20 Ultra’s single 5x periscope camera. Also, the artifacts and the noise in the images are pulling the phone’s score down. The Pixel 4a also received a similar score as the S21 Ultra in terms of video recording.
